Corrections Policy
Last updated: September 26, 2026
At The Black Economic History Institute, our core mission is advancing the understanding of American economic history by identifying, verifying, preserving, and sharing documented contributions with a rigorous commitment to accuracy and integrity. We strive for precision in all our research, publications, and public records.
However, historical research is complex, and despite our rigorous claim verification processes, errors can occasionally occur. When they do, we are committed to correcting them promptly, transparently, and clearly.
1. Our Commitment to Transparency
We distinguish verified facts from attributed claims and institute analysis. If published information contains factual inaccuracies, misleading contexts, or erroneous attributions, we take immediate action to address and rectify the record.
2. Types of Corrections
- Minor Errors: Typographical errors, minor spelling mistakes, or formatting issues that do not affect the core historical context or data accuracy are corrected quietly and promptly.
- Substantive Corrections: Factual inaccuracies regarding dates, names, statistical data, historical context, or source attributions are corrected transparently. An explicit correction note explaining what was changed and when will be added to the affected publication or document.
3. How to Report an Error
We welcome feedback and scrutiny from researchers, historians, and the public. If you believe you have found an error in any of our published records or research, please notify us directly.
To help us investigate efficiently, your submission should include:
- The exact title, URL, or document reference where the error appears.
- A clear description of the factual error.
- Credible sources, primary records, or evidence supporting your claim.
